Doodle Jump tops 3m iPhone downloads
Mar 9th 2010 at 15:45 by Stuart Dredge

Later today, Doodle Jump will become the first paid iPhone game to pass three million downloads, according to MobileCrunch. The game, which was developed by two-man team Lima Sky, has been a perennial chart-topper on the App Store, thanks to ferocious word-of-mouth buzz, regular updates and its 99-cent price.
What's more, sales appear to be accelerating. The game was originally released in March last year, and took nine months to rack up its first million sales. It's now taken less than three months for its next two million.
Doing the sums, three million downloads means more than $2m of revenues for the company in less than a year.
Very few iPhone games will have this level of success, but Doodle Jump, along with fellow indie title Flight Control, is what's persuading thousands of developers that there's gold in them thar App Store hills.
