B-Boy Beats set to 'break' the iPhone

Scottish developer Tag is to bring hip hop rhythm action game B-Boy Beats to the iPhone and iPod touch. Created in partnership with Mobile Pie, the release hopes to evoke the spirit of street culture in 1980s New York, and casts players as the lead member of fledgling break dancing crew intent on courting respect and adulation.

According to a statement from Tag, B-Boy Beats is designed to 'reinvent the stale rhythm action genre made popular on iPhone by titles such as Tap Tap and Rock Band'.

Rather than aping the finger tapping model of most  rhythm action titles on the Apple device, Tag's efforts requires players to largely leave their digits on the iPhone's screen, mimicking many of the fundamentals of real-world break dancing.

The game also features 17 tracks from regarded emerging hip hop artists such as Optimus Rhyme and Magitek. Players must master a range of increasingly complex moves and techniques as they tackle rival crews and progress.

B-Boy Beats, which offers differing difficulty levels and Open Feint social network support, is to be released on February 14th for £1.79.
