Mochi Media's 2009 Flash Games Market Survey has revealed a number of trends currently defining the sector that is its subject. The report, based on the feedback of over 1,100 participants, suggests 97 per cent in the Flash industry are male. Furthermore, over 70 per cent of Flash developers are either hobbyists, or only contributing to creating games on a part-time basis.
However, increasing numbers of developers are moving to making Flash titles; just under a third of game developers began making releases in the last year, with a similar figure opening their doors in the previous 24 months.
Just over half of all the respondents see revenues of under $500 a month from their Flash games, with 24 per cent enjoying a higher income. Just one per cent attract over $25,000 a month.
Other statistics point to the fact that half of the industry is based in the US and UK, and that 37 per cent of respondents create both games and websites spaces such as portals.
