D3Publisher's jewel matching game is set to return in the the form of Puzzle Quest 2, which is heading to XBLA on the 360, as well as the DS. While no final date is yet confirmed, the firm is preparing for a spring 2010 release.
Combining the proven formula of matching coloured tiles with a fantasy theme more often seen in MMO's and action games, Puzzle Quest 2 features a number of new elements absent in its predecessor, such as original weapons, spells, and shields.
“Puzzle Quest is an award winning franchise with numerous accolades including an Interactive Achievement Award for 'Best Downloadable Game of the Year' for Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords,” said Peter Andrew, vice president of product development at D3P. “Puzzle Quest 2 returns with a captivating, rewarding, and accessible journey for gamers of all levels as the ultimate delivery system for the mental release puzzle gamers seek.”
In a nod to the gameplay mechanics of the fantasy games with which Puzzle Quest 2 shares its aesthetic, the game lets players level up each character to progress through the adventure in Story Mode, and also includes Instant Action, Tournament Multiplayer modes, which promise to deliver a rich and diverse experience.
