iPhone landing in South Korea this month

KT will be selling the 32GB and 16GB iPhone 3GS models, as well as the 8GB iPhone 3G. Customers signing up to a 24-month contract will be able to get the top-end model for 132,000 Won (around $114).

Bloomberg suggests that sales of smartphones are expected to reach 800,000 units in South Korea this year, with Samsung, LG and Pantech accounting for 90% of sales.

KT will be hoping its iPhone deal helps it gain ground on larger rival SK Telecom, although with Apple having shifted to a policy of working with multiple carriers in each country, it's quite possible SKT will also be selling the iPhone soon.

Korean mobile content firms are already active on iPhone. For example, games publishers Gamevil and Com2uS have released a succession of popular games in the West.
