PlaySpan to power Nickelodeon's gaming payment platform
Oct 30th 2009 at 12:09 by Will Freeman

Children's TV network and multimedia company Nickelodeon has signed a deal with global payment solutions provider PlaySpan that will see the latter's PayByCash technology used to handle microtransactions across the Nickelodeon Kids and Family Virtual Worlds Group websites.
As a result of the deal Nickelodeon's virtual worlds’ currency NeoCash will now be used across multiple payment providers including credit cards and prepaid cards, meaning the SpongeBob SquarePants company will now be able to offer its customers more than 80 global payment methods.
“There is meaningful entertainment value in premium experiences for our community,” said Kyra Reppen, senior vice president and general manger of Nickelodeon Kids and Family Virtual Worlds Group. “We want to make buying virtual currency and managing purchases as easy and convenient as possible for our players, and PlaySpan is a great partner to help us do that.”
“PlaySpan is the leader in monetisation services for online games, virtual worlds, and social networks,” added Karl Mehta, founder and CEO of PlaySpan. “Partnering with Nickelodeon’s Virtual Worlds Group is a positive endorsement of our market leadership in providing microtransaction platforms.”
The Nickelodeon Kids and Family Virtual Worlds Group creates and maintains all the online virtual worlds aimed at Nickelodeon’s audience of kids, tweens, teens and families, including the popular community of Neopets user, currently-in-beta Petpet Park, and working titles World of Neopia and Monkey World.
