Sports Active helps Wii shine for EA
Aug 5th 2009 at 10:29 by Ben Parfitt

Don’t listen to the naysayers – with the right product third party publishers can still shine on Nintendo’s platforms. This is evidenced by the huge success that is EA Sports Active, which has to date sold 1.8m copies worldwide.
Its success has not only validated EA’s earlier statement of intent to increase its focus on Nintendo’s home platform but also propelled the company to the position of most successful third party publisher on Wii.
As a result, EA’s overall Wii revenues were up year-on-year for the quarter ending June 30th, climbing from $109m last year to $161m in 2009.
The publisher also admitted that it has shifted extra development sources over to its Sports Active team, with the result being a delay on the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of Grand Slam Tennis.
Followers of mine on Twitter will be all too familiar with the physical suffering I’ve endured at the hands of EA Sports Active. Check the blog section tomorrow for a closer look at the EA’s groundbreaking title.
