Mafia Wars played by 4m every day

MMO MONTH: The likes of World of Warcraft may get the bulk of the mainstream media’s attention when it comes to MMO user stats, but a number of casual-orientated titles are currently boasting numbers well in excess of Blizzard’s classic – and Mafia Wars is most certainly one of them.
Developer Zynga has revealed that its Facebook and MySpace title is currently being played by over four million gamers every day, a number no doubt boosted by the arrival of a free version for the iPhone.
Use of the game has doubled over the last three months. In total, the firm sees over 12m players using its games – which include Vampries Bloodlust and FarmVille – on a daily basis.
“Mafia Wars is on its way to becoming a cult classic,” Zynga’s executive producer of MMO studios Bill Mooney stated.
“We have the most dedicated and loyal players who have made the game a hit and we want to thank them by extending the game in a dynamic destination that makes the game unique and challenging.”
