Owners of the in-demand iPhone 3GS will enjoy a more colourful gaming experience than standard 3G (or even 2G) owners with the news that Team 17 intends to patch its Worms for iPhone to offer 3GS-specific content.

PocketGamer reports that the iPhone game is based on the PS3 code, which itself contained things like particle effects and shaders that were stripped down for the move to Apple’s machine.

However, with the 3GS offering a notable performance increase over the older model, the developer is keen to do all it can to make sure it takes advantage of the extra processing power available.

“The 3GS has shader support, so we wanted to throw in a few bells and whistles for the 3GS crowd,” lead programmer Matt Bishop explained.

The idea is that the extra functionality will in time be embedded into the game itself which will be able to detect what type of iPhone it is running on and adjust performance accordingly.

Worms is expected to arrive on the App Store some time month at a cost of around £2.99.

As part of the run up to this month’s Develop Conference, CasualGaming.biz recently sat down with Team 17 boss Martyn Brown. Click here to read the full interview. And check out a video of Worms for iPhone below:
