ESPN goes casual game crazy
Jul 2nd 2009 at 11:16 by Ben Parfitt

Global sports brand EPSN, the firm that recently swooped to buy many of the Premiership football TV rights from defunct broadcaster Setanta, has opened a brand new casual games portal ahead of the firm’s arrival for the first time on Apple’s iPhone.
ESPN Arcade brings with it a number of new games, as well as a completely revamped advertising offering. Chief amongst the casual offerings are (the very playable) Arcade Baseball, Carniball, Mini Hoops and Zoom: Freeze Frame, a title previously known as ESPN Cameraman and which is on the way to iPhone.
A host of community features are present including competitions, leaderboards and a trophy system.
An ESPN statement reads: “ESPN Arcade is adding new opportunities for engaging and bolder advertising options. Marketers will have the flexibility to sign on for traditional ad units, expandable rollover ads, video ads, branded ad skins on the ESPN Arcade page and in-game advertising including video pre-roll ads, dynamically served ads outside of game play and contextual ads within the game for many of the games on the site.”
Since its launch in 2007 ESPN Arcade has grown to house 70 titles. In the past three months traffic has increased by 110 per cent, with fans clocking nearly 8m minutes per month on the site.
independent developer

Hear ye, all you Independent Game developers and Game players, it's time to take responsibility for our economy. The recession is caused by Greedy Corporations such as ESPN saturating an otherwise Free Market that could've leveled the "playing field" for Independent game developers. Now that we have a chance to earn a decent living as an Independent, these Greedy Corporations such as ESPN are choking off, what little chance we have to create a decent income from Iphones Market Place.
I urge you all to BOYCOTT ESPN.
Do not play their greedy ass games. Please, let's fix the economy and don't pander to these greedy bastards, and their million dollar salary fat ass CEO's.
BOYCOTT THESE BASTARDS.
