Nickelodeon to host televised casual awards ceremony

Childrens' network Nickelodeon is to broadcast an awards show that will recogise the best of online casual gaming.

As reported by Mediaweek, The AddictingGames Showdown ceremony will be televised in an interstitial format, in minute to minute-and-a-half segments between shows on the popular children's television station. The awards are being sponsored by Paramount, scooter manufacturer Razor, and gaming company Wizards 101.

Hosted by Jerry Trainor, who stars in a number of Nickelodeon shows, the awards will be broadcast on June 27th. The public can vote for games in a number of irreverently titled categories on the show's website.

Nelson Boyce, senior vice president of online ad sales at Nickelodeon Kids and Family Group is reported to have stated that the awards are designed to celebrate the growth of the casual sector. “This is a new way for AddictingGames to engage with teens and tweens on TV," said Boyce. “It’s also a way to create appointment viewing on the web. And it’s great exposure for our partners.”

Nickelodeon may also consider launching a larger scale casual awards show. “Just given the kind of traction casual games are getting with this audience, there are any number of scenarios to explore,” revealed Boyce

Great for Jerry for hosting that show. He's awesome. I think that many kids like him a lot. So do I. He's a talented actor. Hope that he makes more because he deserves it and because of its huge talent :-]
