Orange tops mobile game sales charts in UK

Orange bossed the UK mobile games market last year, according to official figures from publisher association ELSPA and Chart-Track, accounting for 23 per cent of all downloads and 25 per cent of revenue.

The operator, which has 15 million customers, accounted for a quarter of the market in terms of volume and value.

Interestingly, Orange has attributed much of its success to its embedding programme - over 30 per cent of the operator's game revenues came from pre-installed demos on its signature devices, including the Sony Ericsson W910i and Samsung F480.

The ELSPA/Chart Track sales figures for 2008 are based on downloads from operators and direct-to-consumer content providers.

Neil Holroyd, head of games and gambling at Orange UK, said: “We’re delighted with taking the top spot for mobile gaming in 2008 and are already making great strides to make sure we stay there in 2009.

"We’re making more enhancements to our embedded games, and giving our Orange World gaming channel a new look and feel - customers can look forward to a slicker experience and improved graphics.”
