The industry on DSi: Atari

DS Month: As part of the ongoing DS Month on CasualGaming.biz, we’ve spoken to some of the key figures in the UK games industry about their thoughts on Nintendo’s device ahead of its arrival in the UK on April 3rd.
Here, CG.biz talks to Atari PR man Lee Kirton.
CG.biz: Why do you feel the DS has such mass-market appeal, and what has been key to its ability in expanding the industry's customer base?
LK: Like the Wii, Nintendo have created a console fan base throughout the years that has expanded within a broader market. The Wii and The DS have such a diverse catalogue of games that make it appeal to everyone of all ages. Having worked on a number of titles including ‘Driving Theory Training’, ‘The Sun Crossword etc, the DS is the perfect platform with touch screen capabilities that allow everyone at any time or place the ability to play, interact or just learn.
CG.biz: What is next for the DS? What can the DSi bring to the table that's not currently there?
LK: The ability to use the device as much more than a games machine is now starting to appear with the addition of a camera in the DSi. Movies, music download, email facilities, Wii-like motion controls and a broader communication range is something that we’re most likely to see, and consumers that have bought into Nintendo are very loyal.
CG.biz: Could you remind us of your DS line-up for the next six-12 months?
LK: For the DS we’re focusing on a new release of Driving Theory Training brand and Ghostbusters on the 19th June which ties into the 25th Anniversary of the Ghostbusters movie.
