Nintendo: We’re still waiting for mobile gaming “to happen”
Mar 4th 2009 at 12:20 by Ben Parfitt

DS MONTH: The UK boss of Nintendo David Yarnton has said that his firm didn’t feel the need to cram the upcoming DSi with the latest gadgetry seen in mobile handsets as mobile gaming is not yet a realistic rival to portable consoles.
Speaking to The Times, Yarnton claimed: “Mobile phone gaming has been ‘going to happen’ for a long time. We’re still waiting.
“There are always going to be competitors in certain areas. And sometimes it can focus your attention to make sure that you do things the right way. We could have added lots of things, but then you become a jack-of-all-trades and a master of none.
“One of the things we are really honest about is that we stay faithful to our roots, of being a games company. The most important criterion is to make sure that what we’re offering can do the best games.”
Yarnton also confirmed in the interview that Nintendo decided to introduce region locking to DSi software as a response to the varying age rating requirements in different global territories.
