Sony plans Killzone 2 web game in marketing push
Jan 30th 2009 at 09:45 by Christopher Dring

A Killzone 2 casual web game is to be launched as a part of Sony’s £2 million marketing campaign.
The game will be available to download for Firefox and Internet Explorer users, and invites players to fight in teams against the ‘Helghast threat’
“We're very excited about our online campaign,” says Killzone 2’s UK product manager Phil Lynch.
“What we're attempting has never - to my knowledge - been done before, certainly as a piece of communication. In essence, we're creating a web game based on a Firefox and IE app that consumers can download to their computer, and where they can then create their squad consisting of up to three additional friends.
“Once running and activated, and when the user is browsing the internet, their screen will be ‘attacked’ by Helghast as they browse pages. They can alert their squad members to come and help them and if the team can collaboratively vanquish the Helghast threat, they'll get their score posted onto the leaderboard and be in with a chance to win some prizes and unlock additional content. It's very innovative and something that I believe will resonate with our consumers.”

this sounds like a virus lol. should be cool though. this always seems to happen. sony wont advertise for ages and then when they finally start they put full force into it and really start huge campaigns. this should really help killzone 2 sell well. its what it deserves

We did something similar with Fable II - not only a web games that allowed players to unlock in-game items and gold but also an XBLA game that did a similar thing.
