PopCap sees massive gains at retail
Jan 29th 2009 at 16:37 by Ben Parfitt

Leading casual games portal PopCap may be keeping its quite possibly universe-toppling online revenues figures under wraps, but it has announced that 2008 was a bumper year for the firm at bricks and mortar retail.
VentureBeat reports that figures for US retail analyst NPD show that PopCap’s revenues from boxed retail product were up 85 per cent in 2008 compared to the year before. The results very much buck the overall trend in the PC market in North America, which saw a 14 per cent year-on-year decline in 2008.
Bejewelled Twist was the eighth best-selling boxed retail game in the region in December. In total, the publisher has 15 boxed titles available, which to date have sold more than 20,000 copies. None of this, of course, takes into account the astronomical sales titles such as Bejewelled enjoy online.
The firm adds that its boxed games are now available at 20,000 North American outlets.
