PopCap strikes PS3 deal

Leading casual games vendor PopCap has struck a deal with Sony Online Entertainment that will see five of its leading titles released on the firm’s PlayStation Network for use on PS3.

Worldwide hit Bejewelled 2 is the first to arrive on the service, and is immediately available in North America – its release on the European version of the marketplace is expected shortly.

Other titles on the way include ball puzzle titles Zuma and Peggle, as well as underwater action outing Feeding Frenzy and 2D shooter Heavy Weapon. All titles will include integrated support for PlayStation Trophies and remote play on PSP, and all are available in HD resolutions up to 1080p.

“As leaders in their genre, PopCap is to casual games what SOE is to MMOs,” Sony Online Entertainment John Smedley stated. “Being the second largest publisher on the PlayStation Network, SOE is excited that this partnership will expand the PlayStation Network catalogue with awesome casual titles that players of all types can enjoy.”
