Christmas Wii’s quickly passed on

Despite courting a reputation as a consistently sought after Christmas gift year on year, in the wake of the recent festive season the Wii has been one of the most readily returned and sold-on presents.

Joining stalwarts of the post-Christmas returns rush like clothing, the Wii has kept retailers exceedinglybusy, reports The Sydney Morning Herald.

"Interactive toys like the Wii and other electrical items were the main items refunded this year," said Lynn Semjaniv from Target.

On eBay the Wii, along with other electronical appliances and gadgets, has proved to be one of the most hastily sold Christmas gifts. "Since Christmas, we've had almost a million new items listed on the site," explained eBay's Sian Gipslis "On Boxing Day alone we had 126,500 new items listed."

You've misread or misquoted the article. It says "Wii games", meaning that they're keeping the system and selling the games they received with it.

This leads me to believe that they simply want different title(s) to the ones received.
