Casual Gaming’s year in review: 2008

It was the year casual games went from the worst kept multi-million dollar secret in the games business to its potential saviour. Favoured with big investments from venture capitalists and growing interest from the likes of EA, Microsoft, Jagex, Apple and latterly Sega, casual games execs have walked with a confident swagger at odds with the prevailing economic gloom.

2008 also saw the arrival of CasualGaming.biz. Launched in May, this site took over the baton of casual games coverage from MCVuk.com and Developmag.com, and has since delivered several hundred news stories to a dedicated audience of casual games professionals.

Below we’ve picked out the most interesting highlights of the year for you to review.

That's a great list of what's happened this year. Seems the most important trends came mainly in the mobile space, mostly thanks to the iPhone, and in companies raising large sums of money by going casual.
Facebook was huge in the early part of 2008, but dropped off toward the middle/end of 2008.
How will casual games fare in 2009? I have a list of predictions here: http://christopher...2009/

What about Kongregate? Nonba and XPOGames.com?

They're all about casual gaming and made huge steps these year.
