Seaman swimming to iPhone

One of the more curious entries in the history of console gaming is making the move to Apple’s iPhone according to the blog of Japanese games designer Yoot Saito.

Seaman, which first arrived in 1999 on Sega’s Dreamcast, saw players interact with a virtual pet who was half man half fish. Using the included microphone, it was possible to chat with the surprisingly funny and insightful Seaman before he left player’s care to live independently in the wild.

A sequel to the original game was released last year in Japan on PS2, and spent one week at the top of the charts upon its release, though to date there’s been no talk of the title making the move to Western markets.

Now, Joystiq reports that Yoot Saito, the developer of the original title, has claimed on his personal blog that an iPhone adaptation of the second game will shortly be released in North America.

Entitled Gabo, the game will apparently arrive in Japan in the next few weeks and worldwide shortly after. The game, which will cost under $5, does not feature microphone support but will obviously support the iPhone’s touch screen.
