Real begins free game giveaway

Gamehouse.com, a casual gaming portal owned by digital services company Real Networks, will from today give away one free game a day to every visitor.

The titles will be free to download and to keep without any ongoing obligation. The promotion comes as part of the site’s redesign, which also sees the firm unveil a brand new pricing structure for its range of titles as well as a host of new customisation options.

“Today's customers are dramatically more value conscious, and we've seen a growing demand for top-quality games at great prices,” the newly appointed president of Real’s Games Division John Barbour stated.

“This new value pricing gives existing customers more ways to enjoy popular games, while providing an even better experience to attract a broader audience.”

Members of the site’s GameHouse Club will be entitled to download the game a day ahead of general visitors.

Hmmm... sounds familiar... A new game daily ... Gamehouse club members can download a game the day ahead of general visitors...
Could it be that Big Fish has been doing this for a couple of years?
The giveaway idea is new but sounds a bit risky. Very risky. Is it possible that 50% (or more) of the audience will just stick to the giveaways and stop buying altogether? I sure think it is. How will they monetize this daily traffic and most importantly will the developers get a cut off that monetization for having their games given away for free to thousands of people on the debut date?

This free game is a hoax, it is not free unless you pay some up front money to be a member. The only free giveaways of full version games is Bigfish and boy that is free, I know from experience. I have tried the gamehouse free download and all I get is a 6o mins free trial.
