TV strike paves way for Indian casual gaming boom
Nov 19th 2008 at 12:53 by Ben Parfitt

Indian casual games portal Zapakgirls.com is claiming that a recent strike in the TV sector that has affected programming has lead to a massive boom in popularity for casual gaming amongst the country’s female population.
The portal currently carries over 2000 casual games titles and receives ten million page views a month, and 70 per cent of the downloads from Zapak.com are made by female buyers.
“Zapakgirls.com has now become India's number one gaming destination for women,” Zapak CEO Rohit Sharma stated. “The ongoing strike by workers in India's television industry has opened a window of opportunities for us.
"The number of women gamers has gone up on Zapakgirls.com and the women footfalls at the Zapak Gameplexes have increased as well. Zapak is now a new entertainment option for the women across India. I hope more and more women explore gaming in time to come.”
Zapak is also planning a promotion at its chain of gaming café’s, which will allow women free access to the facilities for one hour a day between November 24th and December 8th.
