Molyneux: Casual could damage core
Oct 10th 2008 at 17:39 by Tim Ingham

Fable II developer Peter Molyneux has spoken of his concern that the division between casual and core games may damage the traditional side of the industry.
Speaking to Kotaku, Molyneux said:
"I don't like this divide we are building. More and more we are saying these ones here are core games and these one here are casual games.
"Actually I think that is an incredibly divisive thing and if we're not careful the amount of attention we put into these core games will get less and less because they are so expensive to make. Less and less people will be able to afford to make them."
Molyneux recently told the site that he encouraged consumer magazines to get reviewers that were sympathetic to casual games to rate Fable II.

I think it's worth metnioning that Lionhead are using casual games to advertise Fable 2 via xbox live arcade.
So he is kind of adding to his concerns here.

Diversity in the gaming tiers is good for everyone.
Ultimately if people stop funding cor gaming blockbusters (and I don't think they will) then they'll only have themselves to blame.
