Official: Wii Fit sells 3.6m in 2008

That’s according to new data from the Top Global Markets Report – a joint effort by industry sales monitors GFK (Europe), ChartTrack (UK), NPD (US) and Enterbrain (Japan).

The game sold 1.43 million units in the US, with 624,000 being snapped up in the UK. Japanese consumers have bought 1.55 million copies.

Wii-only titles make up three of the five biggest-sellers of the year. Super Smash Bros. Brawl, the second biggest seller of 2008 thus far, has sold 5.43 million globally, followed by Mario Kart Wii in third with 4.69 million unit sales.

Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto IV is the biggest selling title of the year so far, shifting a total of 6.29 million copies. 4.71 million were sold in the US, with 1.58 million copies coming in the UK.

The game is due for release in Japan in October.
