GameJacket: We've revolutionised casual games
Jul 17th 2008 at 14:48 by Michael French

New firm GameJacket has told CasualGaming.biz that its ad service for developers and publishers is changing the way casual games are being brought to market.
Founded earlier this year, GameJacket is an advanced advertising solution for online games, promising to let developers regain control of their content and monetise it, placing ads in a game no matter where they are hosted or embedded.
The system requires a developer to upload their game file to the GameJacket servers, the automated system then returns a custom ‘gamejacket’ file, a surrogate game file, which can be freely distributed around the net. This system instantly guarantees revenue each time a game is played, whilst allowing the developer to retain absolute version control, said MD Simon Jones
Developers are guaranteed to earn a minimum of $0.50 CPM - with GameJacket also promising an advance of $1,000 for any exclusive games that are launched via the service, said Jones.
"What we are doing for developers is unique in the marketplace," Jones told CasualGaming.biz.
"We are revolutionising the casual games space - developers are making money straight away and we are providing critical real estate to advertisers."
The system is far more effective than either choosing to limit a game to one portal or allowing anyone embed it on the web as it means developers have control over their game where ever it gets played.
GameJacket's technology also has another unique benefit; its version control feature means developers can release one version of a game, and update it whenever they want, regardless of how many sites that game has already spread to. Furthermore the system allows different versions of each game to be streamed dependent on user environment such as by language.
"One of the big problems with viral content is that you lose control of it," Jones added.
"This opens a new way forward for developers. And they're attracted by not just the revenues we can make by selling ads in these games - GameJacket provides some unique technology too."
"We thought the 50/50 split on revenues would get them interested, but developers also love the fact we provide a version control system so they can roll back and forth between versions of their game. This changes everything for the developer."
GameJacket can also tap into an audience bigger than the core gamer one, claimed Jones - as exemplified by the success of big Flash games like Desktop Tower Defence.
"We all know that Flash games now are huge, played by millions - more people have played Desktop Tower Defense in the past year than have ever owned or touched a Nintendo DS. So there is a huge audience we can reach."

And this is different from MochiAds how? By guaranteeing payment? sounds like a stretch.

The version control is nice. But Gamejacket has to convince game portals etc that Gamejackets servers will be reliable, as the portals will get the blame if the games don't load or load slow. Mochiads does share a little bit of the ad money to the portals, will Gamejacket?

The way GJ delivers content on it's network is entirely different to Mochi.
I'll give you one example, currently if a developer doesn't have a sponsorship deal in place for launch should they continue to wait forever? With GJ they can launch the game, await good traffic results then sell for much higher rates when the traffic is more impressive - sponsors love this as it hugely reduces the risk.
Devolopers with us are already beginning to sell their game more than once, either on a tenancy basis (3 months for $xxx) or on a country-by-country basis.
All only possible with GameJacket.
As for reliability, well - we're in Beta so we are looking for problems to fix. But our systems are built around scalability and failover security.
Finally, that guarenteed CPM that is getting everyone excited. GJ is a premium ad network utilising the latest creative delivery techniques and this ensures that games on our network produce strong yields.
If you're unsure, why not give GameJacket a try in the knowledge that we don't insist on exclusivity.

You've got to be kidding! The Mochiads version control service is already allowing game developers to switch to working with sponsors in a much safer and more reliable way than yours. They also have a ton more features and credibility in this space.

Hey Ernesto, isn't competition a healty thing for the market place. This helps drive innovation for both systems which can only help us developers in the long run.

FAQ of gamejacket... i really recommend this service so i make a interview to some adms, of gamejacket... see here...
- When the 0.5 eCPM minimum will end?
We have no date set for the end of this promotion. All adverts qualify – pre-roll adverts and the new GameJacket interstitial API.
- Do you have a distribution program? or is only for the games that get the 100 advance?
Yes, we have a distribution program and it is not limited to the $1000 Advance games, however due to the volume of games submitted we cannot enter all games in to the distribution program and actively encourage all developers to submit their games to any portals that can.
- What happens if your servers crash, our games will be out of line? do you have some backup server in for that issue?
We use some of the top servers available and our down-time is virtually non-existent. We have a very good backup system that is monitored all the time to ensure that if the main servers go down then the back up servers kick in straight away.
- Will you have some click aways ads, without the Jacket?
Not sure what you mean.. can you rephrase the question? J
- Do you make some referral program in the next months?
Yes, we are working on a referral program. We don't have a timeline for it yet so we can't state an official roll-out date.
- When do you release the Gamejacket Leaderboards?
It will be before Christmas… Santa will be bringing you a HighScore API this year from GameJacket!
- I heard that you will implement some Game contests, is that true?
Yes, we are working out the details for the first GameJacket contest as we speak!
Nothing is set in stone yet so why don't
-What I'd like to know though is it possible to have a GameJacket/MochiAds mix? (Hibryd question)
At the moment it is, yes… we definitely recommend that if you're using the GameJacket system you can use the Mochi HighScore API (until our version is ready of course).
We'd rather see Flash Game Developers monetize their games with the APIs available to them.
- How do you get financed gamejacket?
GameJacket is financed by Private Equity (individuals investing in our company).
- Will come some features in the next months?
Well, there's the HighScore API and the Competition and the referral system… and some other stuff we can't quite mention just yet… ;)
