Official: iPhone games to cost up to $9.99

Frugal portable games fans, breathe a sigh of relief – Apple has given the official price of its iPhone games and it's much less than previously touted.

Despite comments from iPhone developers suggesting games would cost as much as $25, Apple CEO Steve Jobs last night confirmed that some games sold via the App Store would be free, and others would cost no more than $9.99.

The new iPhone version of Sega's Super Monkey Ball was amongst the first iPhone apps to be demonstrated.

The game will be made available from the iPhone App Store for $9.99, with more to come from the Japanese publisher, according to the company's associate producer Ethan Einhorn

Spanish game developer Digital Legends took time to show off 3D action adventure Krull, which is due for a September release.

Finally, developer Pangea displayed Enigmo and Cro-Mag Rally, a racing game that used iPhone’s accelerometer like a steering wheel.

Well that's bloody reasonable. So glad I don't have to fork out on these. Had a mini panic attack last week!

I'm mainly about home consoles and pre-owned in my store, but these look like it will be worth getting a couple in – pods and phones. Any other retailers thinking the same?

I really don't think the DS is in trouble. The DS has a HUGE and I mean HUGE install base. It will make things interesting maybe, but the controls on the iphone are going to be primitive and clunky.
