Platrium launches casual games web browser bar
Jun 3rd 2008 at 14:23 by Michael French

A new casual gaming firm claims to have found 'the next advancement in Internet browser' - a toolbar for Internet Explorer that offers access to casual games.
Platrium thinks its now games browser bar will offer those looking to play casual games easy access to experiences which help them take a break from their work.
The Platrium Playbar, currently available only for Internet Explorer, links directly to the games on Platrium.com, where the titles are hosted.
"Platrium gives you permission to relax and take a break from everyday cares and concerns," commented Val Sanford, vice president of marketing and product management at Platrium, in the toolbar's official announcement.
"We've collected lots of great casual games and made them available at the Platrium.com Web site and through the customizable Platrium Playbar. The end result is a unique casual game experience that's ready for you whenever you want -- or need -- an escape or diversion."
The Playbar boasts a message centre, and generates advertising and comparison shopping offers which are presented to palyers.
Added Sanford: "Consumers, advertisers, and sponsors are co-partners in Platrium.
"The Playbar includes the expected search box that will generate relevant search results, including sponsored listings, when a search term is entered. But the Playbar also includes a valuable comparison shopping engine designed to deliver timely results and empower consumers to easily compare prices for a particular product, or type of product, across thousands of Internet stores. And because the search and comparison shopping activity is separate from the gaming experience, consumers can focus on games without interruption when they're taking a break and engage with Platrium advertisers and sponsors when they are shopping or browsing the web."

I downloaded this and did not find it to be that compelling. It seems like a generic search bar with games thrown in. I think it could be more compelling if platrium indexed the big gaming sites and was more transparent in trying to help gamers FIND GAMES. Give people real value in games tool bar.
