Fischbach: Established firms won't rule casual sector
May 13th 2008 at 15:05 by Tim Ingham

Founder and former CEO of Acclaim Gregory Fischbach has claimed that established publishers such as EA and Activision will struggle to dominate the casual market.
The likes of EA, Activision, Take 2 and Midway have all made strides into the online PC space in recent months, but Fischbach – who is now involved at the higher echelons of casual firm MumboJumbo – believes that they “have not established a foothold”.
“Casual games are a great place to enter the sector because the larger games companies have not established a foothold,” said Fischbach.
“The casual games industry has the potential to continue to grow at an accelerated rate by addressing a much larger audience than that serviced by those large games companies.”
Fischbach spoke in a report on New York’s gaming industry by the city’s Centre For an Urban future.
The research paper concluded that casual games were thriving in the area, whilst core titles were struggling in comparison.
