The arrival of Nintendo's new downloadable games service WiiWare in the US today is backed with a mix of core-focused and casual games - and one of the latter is a quiz game by mobile firm Gameloft, which it says proves its casual credentials.

TV Show King is an original game developed specifically for Nintendo's Wii by Gameloft. The game quizzes up to four players on a variety of topics in a TV game show-like set-up.

Gameloft is gunning for global sales with the game - 80 per cent of its questions focus on general knowledge and 20 per cent focus on region-specific categories, meaning the game can be "enjoyed across multiple countries" the firm said.

"As we remain at the forefront of the casual games market, we're excited to launch our first WiiWare game," said Gonzague de Vallois, senior vice president, publishing.

"The Wii has completely revolutionized the gaming space, and the launch of WiiWare now makes it possible for us to distribute more innovative and entertaining games easier than ever before, the first of which is TV Show King."

Other WiiWare launch games in the US which focus on casual players include XGen Studios' Defend Your Castle, Nnooo's Pop, and V.I.P. Casino: Blackjack by High Voltage.

WiiWare is a digital distribution channel for the Wii console with relatively lower barriers to entry than the likes of its contemporaries Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, allowing developers to submit and manage the release of their own games - provided they look after key testing, QA and age rating requirements/costs.
