Midway's ‘opportunistic' plan for casual expansion
May 8th 2008 at 15:54 by Tim Ingham

Midway CEO Matt Booty (pictured, right) has told CasualGaming.biz that there will be more coming from the firm in the online space after it launches its first ever casual games portal later this year.
The firm announced at its Gamers’ Day event in Las Vegas last month that it will be making 20 casual games available on the service, which is et to launch in the summer.
It is likely that the firm will utilise many of its retro franchises – which include Mortal Kombat, Gauntlet and PaperBoy.
Booty told CasualGaming.biz:
“Our casual site will have games that can be played on the site as well as well as games that can be purchased. We’ll have a whole lot of tiers and a wide range of products that can be purchased there.
"In terms of our expansion in this space, I think that we’ll opportunistically go after what makes the most sense. We’re very interested in pursuing other avenues of revenue.”
International excutive VP Martin Spiess, echoed Booty’s comments. He told CasualGaming.biz:
“We are always looking for opportunities to generate revenue and profit, and casual games is very much one of those. So obviously we’re very excited.
“And it’s not just PC. We had huge success with Game Party on Wii recently, which we firmly place in the casual genre.
"There’s more products designed for that segment soon – a sequel to Game Party and Touchmaster (DS) in particular. It’s a segment which is important to us, and one we will continue to serve.”
