‘Healthy gaming’ is a completely new area for the industry. These titles can resonate with a population that is much wider than console-owners only.

Healthy gaming – a new dawn

Because of that, they all have the potential to be hardware drivers. To convince these new customers to invest in not only the game but also the console, we need to have the right product of course, but we also really have to think outside the box and find what makes these people tick. We're doing more research to understand them better, and we're also keeping a really open mind.

‘Healthy gaming’ titles advertise a totally different aspect of gaming and gaming consoles. It's not only about the graphics and the immersive experience, it is also about ease-of-use and real-life benefits.

This can appeal to a much wider part of the population. Consoles like the Nintendo DS and Wii are clearly offering new opportunities and consumers of all ages and genders are becoming more aware of this.

A lot of the topics we are now tapping into have existed for years in other media, mostly books, magazines and PC, where they have been achieving consistent sales.

Consoles can add interactivity and fun to the mix as well as portability in the case of the DS or the PSP.

They can make the process of learning a language, managing your weight or quitting cigarettes more engaging and accessible. We will probably see more of these types of games as people start to realise this.
